About the Role

Aborder Products is seeking a highly motivated Intellectual Property Attorney to lead our in-house IP efforts and shape the legal strategy supporting innovation and brand protection. This is a rare opportunity to build the IP function at a fast-growing consumer product company from the ground up. As the company’s first dedicated IP legal hire, you will work across patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret matters to proactively protect the company’s intellectual assets. You will collaborate with internal teams and external counsel to align our IP strategy with business and R&D goals, while minimizing risk and supporting growth. This position reports directly to the COO.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute the company’s IP strategy, covering patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
  • Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications.
  • Manage trademark portfolio and support brand protection initiatives.
  • Conduct invention harvesting sessions and identify patentable and protectable innovations.
  • Provide freedom-to-operate, infringement, and patentability analyses.
  • Oversee third-party IP matters, including licensing, disputes, and enforcement.
  • Develop and implement internal IP policies, training programs, and workflow processes.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel on complex IP prosecution, litigation, or oppositions.
  • Advise on IP-related clauses in contracts, NDAs, licensing agreements, and joint ventures.
  • Monitor changes in global IP law and advise business stakeholders accordingly.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school.
  • Member in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar (Texas preferred).
  • USPTO registration required.
  • 4+ years of experience practicing IP law (law firm or in-house), with significant patent experience and exposure to trademarks and other forms of IP.
  • Technical degree in engineering or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and prosecuting utility patents.
  • Working knowledge of international IP frameworks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative mindset.
  • Self-starter with the ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Be the first IP attorney at a fast-scaling consumer product company. Strategic, high-visibility role with influence over innovation and brand protection. Collaborative and creative company culture focused on innovation. Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits.
