Customs Entry Writer

Location: Dallas, TX

An international freight forwarder is seeking an experienced Customs Entry Writer to join its compliance and import operations team in Dallas, TX. This role requires strong knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, hands-on experience in import documentation, and the ability to process timely, compliant entries across multiple trade lanes.

This is a critical position for ensuring accurate customs clearance and minimizing delays across air and ocean shipments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and file customs entries for air and ocean import shipments in accordance with CBP regulations
• Classify goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) with precision and accuracy
• Coordinate timely and accurate ISF (Importer Security Filing) submissions prior to vessel departure
• Review commercial invoices, packing lists, arrival notices, and shipping documentation for accuracy and completeness
• Communicate directly with CBP, customs exam stations, and Partner Government Agencies (FDA, USDA, EPA, FCC) as required
• Resolve customs holds, PGA issues, and delivery delays proactively and with urgency
• Ensure full compliance with import regulations, Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), Anti-Dumping/Countervailing duties (ADD/CVD), and recordkeeping requirements
• Maintain internal entry records for audit-readiness under 19 CFR Part 111
• Coordinate with clients, overseas agents, and internal freight teams to ensure clean handoffs and real-time communication
• Monitor entry post-release processes including liquidation tracking, CF-28/29 responses, and post-summary corrections
• Utilize systems such as CargoWise, Descartes, or similar ABI-compliant platforms for entry transmission and document control

Required Experience:

• 3+ years in a Customs Entry Writer or Customs Brokerage role within a freight forwarding or NVOCC environment
• Strong working knowledge of CBP regulations, HTS classification, PGA processes, and import documentation
• Proficiency in filing ISF, ABI entry types (01, 03, 11, etc.), and reconciling compliance discrepancies
• Familiarity with bonded warehouse entries, TIBs, FTZ procedures, and drawback processes is a plus
• Systems experience with CargoWise 1, Descartes, or other ACE-integrated platforms
• Knowledge of Incoterms 2020 and their effect on entry responsibility and valuation
