Design Engineer

Full time/1st shift/$90k-$110k

Lafayette, IN

Overview:

Aegis is partnered with a company that is best known for making handicap accessible minivans. They don’t actually make the vans, but they will buy a Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna or Dodge Caravan and then convert it so that a motorized lift can load a wheelchair either from the side or rear.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in automotive design is essential.
  • Prior involvement in assembly plant launches is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of Dimensional Management and proficiency in interpreting GD&T are required.
  • Hands-on experience with the design and manufacturing of mechanisms, as well as steel and aluminum components, is necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering, design, and development of new vehicle conversions using CAD software (Inventor).
  • Design key vehicle systems including mechanisms, suspensions, structural components, and closures such as doors and liftgates.
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of design, procurement, assembly, and validation activities, ensuring alignment with overall project timelines, APQP stage gates, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure vehicle designs and systems meet established quality standards and cost objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and Portfolio—to ensure all design considerations are addressed.
  • Recommend cost-effective design solutions, promote design commonality, and support standardization efforts.
  • Participate in the design and assembly of prototype vehicles.
