Head Groundskeeper

  • Schedule: Full-Time, Dayshift. Holidays and Weekend shifts may be required.
  • Uniform and equipment provided by Flatrock Motorclub.

  • An Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Turfgrass Management or Agriculture preferred
  • Prior golf course groundskeeping experience is preferred but not required.
Position Overview:

The Head Groundskeeper is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and aesthetic presentation of all resort grounds, including the track, walkways, recreational lawns, and outdoor amenities. This role ensures the landscaping reflects the luxury standards of the resort and delivers an exceptional guest experience. The Head Groundskeeper leads a team of grounds staff and coordinates with other departments to maintain a safe, beautiful, and welcoming environment.

Leadership Skills:

Team Management & Supervision Effectively lead and motivate a diverse groundskeeping crew. Assign tasks based on strengths and ensure productivity.
Communication Clearly convey instructions, expectations, and feedback to staff. Coordinate with resort management, vendors, and other departments professionally.
Decision-Making Make quick, informed decisions regarding landscaping priorities, emergency repairs, or safety concerns. Balance aesthetic goals with practical needs and resource limitations. Problem-Solving Address issues like plant health, equipment failure, or scheduling conflicts promptly and efficiently. Anticipate seasonal or weather-related challenges before they impact operations.
Planning & Organization Develop and maintain maintenance schedules, seasonal planting plans, and supply inventories. Oversee long-term landscaping projects while managing daily tasks.
Attention to Detail Ensure all outdoor areas meet luxury resort standards — no stray leaves, brown patches, or uneven trimming. Train staff to spot and correct imperfections before guests do.
Accountability Set high standards for performance and hold self and team responsible for results. Follow through on commitments and respond to guest or manager concerns proactively.
Adaptability Adjust plans and resources in response to weather changes, emergencies, or resort events. Stay open to new methods, technologies, and sustainable practices. Key Responsibilities:

Lead Groundskeeping Operations

  • Oversee daily maintenance of all resort grounds, gardens, walkways, and outdoor amenities to meet luxury standards.
  • Direct and supervise groundskeeping staff, ensuring productivity, professionalism, and safety.

Landscape Planning & Execution

  • Design, implement, and maintain landscape plans that align with the resort’s brand, guest experience goals, and seasonal changes.
  • Ensure high-quality upkeep of lawns, flowerbeds, trees, shrubs, and decorative plantings.

Irrigation & Environmental Management

  • Monitor and maintain irrigation systems to ensure efficient and sustainable water use.
  • Implement environmentally responsible practices, including pest control and native plant usage.

Equipment Oversight

  • Ensure all landscaping tools and machinery are properly maintained, safe, and in good working condition.
  • Manage inventory and procurement of supplies, tools, and replacement parts.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Train, mentor, and schedule groundskeeping staff. Conduct performance reviews and encourage ongoing skill development.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and respectful work culture.

Quality Control & Aesthetic Standards

  • Perform regular inspections of the grounds to ensure a pristine, inviting environment for guests at all times.
  • Promptly resolve any landscaping issues, safety hazards, or guest concerns related to outdoor areas.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Develop and manage landscaping budgets, including labor, materials, and contract services.
  • Track expenses and ensure efficient use of resources.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce proper safety procedures and protocols for all groundskeeping activities.
  • Ensure compliance with resort policies and local environmental regulations.

Guest-Focused Service

  • Maintain outdoor spaces in a way that enhances guest satisfaction and aligns with the resort’s luxury image.
  • Address guest comments or requests regarding outdoor spaces with urgency and professionalism.

Physical Demand : This position primarily involves working outdoors and requires adaptability to diverse weather conditions. Daily tasks include the operation of landscaping tools and machinery across extensive land areas. Physical capability is necessary, including lifting 50 pounds or more. Effective communication and information exchange with team members and other departments are essential. Successful candidates must undergo a drug screening and background check. FLSA Status: Exempt
