The Communications Manager is responsible for managing Communications Department support for Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS) to successfully advance an integrated strategy to support business priorities in the internal and external environments. This includes planning, oversight, execution and measurement of strategic communications plans for broad, MCHS-based audiences and specific stakeholder groups in alignment with strategic priorities. The Manager will assemble cross-functional teams to support strategic initiatives, resourcing communications talent, and measuring results according to identified key performance indicators. Additional responsibilities may include executive support for staff engagement and priority internal and external run of business needs. The Manager will work closely with the Vice Chair, Content, Integration and Delivery. The successful candidate will have strong experience working with executive-level leaders as well as balancing multiple priorities and successfully managing cross-functional teams. The Manager works remotely most of the time but will need to travel across MCHS locations as needed.
The department is responsible to build, grow and protect Mayo Clinic’s reputation in a way that shapes the external environment and nurtures the culture to help achieve the mission of the organization. Department functions consist of reputation management including thought leadership and issues/crisis response; client communications and engagement programs; staff engagement; content and channels; government and community engagement; strategy and insights; communications services. The manager understands Mayo Clinic business objectives and priorities and leads the development of strategies to support those objectives. The manager partners with other department leaders to execute operational goals, prioritize work, ensure effective and efficient operations, maintain high standards for service excellence and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement. Develops and maintains relationships with Mayo Clinic executive leadership, staff and members of the local and national government and/or media to advance organizational awareness and achievements. The manager is primarily responsible for the management of staff and/or programs and leveraging functional expertise. May serve enterprise and site leadership needs through participation on committees, task forces and workgroups. QualificationsRequires a bachelor's degree in a related field plus 5 years of relevant work experience.Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate in a way that creates clarity, simplifies messages, and aligns with organizational strategy. Knowledge of channels for communication and the ability to build effective communication and engagement strategies.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to independently identify opportunities, solutions and resolve challenges. Demonstrated ability to deliver impactful results.
