Job Description

Position: Paralegal

Location: New York, NY 10003

Duration: 6 months to start, with the potential for extensions

Pay Rate: $35/hr - $40/hr (depending on experience)

This role will be fully in office until the managers feel they are comfortably independent, then transition into a hybrid model of 3 days in, 2 days remote.

  • Work Hours: 40 hours per week

Industry Background Required:

  • Prior experience working in a law firm environment
  • Background in defense litigation
  • Experience with personal injury cases and medical records

Position Summary:

The Paralegal will assist attorneys in handling all aspects of pending litigation, including document production, legal research, filing, and case management. The role requires strong organizational skills and prior experience working on personal injury and defense litigation matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist attorneys in the preparation of litigation matters, including drafting pleadings and responses to discovery demands.
  • Manage large volumes of document production, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery.
  • Maintain and organize both physical and electronic case files throughout the litigation process.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and management personnel for gathering documents required for litigation.
  • Review and analyze legal documents, identifying key information and cataloging exhibits.
  • Conduct legal research and cite-check briefs to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare various legal documents and ensure compliance with procedural rules.
  • Monitor cases to track deadlines and coordinate all litigation support activities.
  • Administer legal holds through designated software tools.
  • Review CPLR and other court rules to determine deadlines and filing requirements, and maintain accurate calendaring of all legal deadlines.
  • Manage and maintain electronic document repositories and document review platforms.
  • Handle the electronic filing of legal documents using PACER (Federal Courts) and NYSCEF (New York State Courts).
  • Perform other legal tasks or assignments as required.

Required Technical and Professional Skills:

  • Strong experience in processing authorizations for medical records, insurance records, and workers’ compensation documents.
  • Skilled in drafting legal documents, correspondence, and client communications.
  • Experience in managing and maintaining litigation case files.
  • Familiarity with personal injury litigation, including motor vehicle accidents.
  • Experience in reviewing and analyzing medical records as part of litigation.
  • Proficiency with legal research tools, court e-filing systems (PACER & NYSCEF), and legal document management software.

Education & Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant legal/litigation experience.
