Now Hiring: Van Driver, W2 Part-Time to Full-Time Employee, Pay: $23/hr 

The International Seafarers Center of Long Beach and Los Angeles (ISC POLB/LA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a "home away from home" for merchant seafarers visiting the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. We offer essential services including recreation, personal care, and cultural enrichment to seafarers from around the world, recognizing their vital role in global trade. We are seeking a responsible, reliable, and empathetic Van Driver to join our team and provide critical transportation services to these often-isolated individuals.

Job Summary:

As a Van Driver for the International Seafarers Center, you will be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of merchant seafarers to and from their vessels, the Center, and various essential destinations within the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. This role requires exceptional driving skills, a clean record, and a strong commitment to customer service and the well-being of our seafarer guests. You will be a vital link, offering a welcoming and helpful presence to individuals far from home.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Safely transport seafarers to and from ship terminals, the International Seafarers Center, and approved destinations such as shopping centers and banks.
• Navigate the complex layouts of the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles with ease and efficiency.
• Maintain a friendly, respectful, and helpful demeanor while interacting with seafarers from diverse backgrounds.
• Ensure the cleanliness and basic maintenance of the assigned van, including tracking fuel usage.
• Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
• Report any vehicle issues or maintenance needs to the Transportation Manager promptly.
• Assist seafarers with luggage or other reasonable needs as appropriate.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Management Team.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Minimum age of 25 years old.
• High school diploma or GED certificate.
• Valid California Driver's License with a consistently clean driving record.
• Proven strong driving skills and experience.
• Proven technical skills and computer programs expertise​
• Integrity and a strong sense of responsibility.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills, with a compassionate and understanding approach towards seafarers
• Thorough knowledge of the Port of Long Beach and Port of Los Angeles layouts, including terminals and key navigation routes.
• Excellent time-management abilities, responsiveness, and flexibility to adapt to varying schedules and needs.
• In-depth understanding of the maritime shipping industry and the unique needs of ship crews.
• TWIC card holder preferred.

Compensation and Employment:

• Pay Rate: $23.00 per hour
• Location: Primarily based out of the Port of Long Beach, serving both the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.
• Employment Type: W2 employee, starting as part-time with potential to become full-time within 6-9 months, reporting directly to the Transportation Manager.
