Job Description

About Mithrl

Mithrl is building the world’s first commercially available AI Co-Scientist —a discovery engine that empowers life science teams to go from messy biological data to novel insights in minutes. Scientists ask questions in natural language, and Mithrl answers with real analysis, novel targets, and patent-ready reports. No coding. No waiting. No bioinformatics bottlenecks.

We are the fastest growing tech-bio startup in the Bay Area with over 12X YoY revenue growth. Our platform is already being used by teams at some of the largest biotechs and big pharma across three continents to accelerate and uncover breakthroughs—from target discovery to mechanism of action.

We envision a world where novel drugs and therapies reach patients in months—not years—accelerating breakthroughs that save lives.

Why This Role Matters

It's a rare chance to be at the intersection of AI, science, and design — solving real-world problems with technology that will change the future of scientific breakthroughs and save lives. We believe the future of biotech isn’t just about better algorithms—it’s about making cutting-edge science feel accessible, collaborative, and intuitive. That’s where you come in.

As a product designer, you’ll own the design language of the Mithrl experience, working hand-in-hand with product, engineering, and biology teams to refine the AI co-scientist platform. You’ll help make the experience of talking to your genomics data feel like talking to a colleague. You’ll turn complex biological outputs into delightfully clear interfaces that spark confidence, curiosity, and speed.

What You'll Do

  • Design elegant, powerful workflows for scientists to ask research questions, explore insights, and navigate complex datasets.
  • Own the end-to-end design process : from user research and wireframes to high-fidelity mockups and polished, production-ready components.
  • Work closely with our founders, AI scientists, and biology team to translate real scientific workflows into intuitive product interfaces .
  • Collaborate with engineering to ensure a smooth and delightful implementation.
  • Evolve and maintain a design system that balances scientific rigor with warmth, clarity, and speed.
  • Talk to users regularly , learn their pains, and advocate for their experience inside the product.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5–7 years of product design experience in a high-growth startup or B2B SaaS product
  • Experience designing for technical users or data-heavy applications (bonus: science, ML, or dev tools)
  • Mastery of Figma (including: motion, prototyping, and interaction design)
  • Ability to move between strategic thinking and pixel-perfect execution
  • Strong sense of visual design, information hierarchy, and UX clarity
  • A bias for fast iteration, shipping, and learning
  • Empathy, curiosity, and a drive to make hard things intuitive
  • Bonus: experience working with AI products or in the life sciences space

What You’ll Love

  • Ownership: Design a category-defining AI product from the ground up
  • Purpose: Work on something that accelerates discovery and can save lives
  • Speed: We ship fast, and iterate with real customers
  • People: Join a world-expert team of scientists, AI engineers, and builders obsessed with quality and curiosity
  • Culture: No ego, no red tape. Just smart, kind people solving hard problems
  • Location: Beautiful SF office
  • Benefits: Comprehensive PPO health coverage through Anthem (medical, dental, and vision) + 401(k) with top-tier plans

How to Apply

Shoot us a note with your portfolio, a few words about why you’re excited about Mithrl, and anything else you think we should know.

Application tip (read carefully): Hidden in Middle-earth, in the depths of Khazad-dûm, lies a name not easily forgotten. In your application, please include the answer to this question: What was the name of the Balrog that Gandalf fought in Moria? (No need to explain it—just the name is enough.)
