Job Description

Idyllic, one of a kind luxury destination resort in CA is seeking a talented culinarian for a Sous Chef opportunity.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a talented and passionate Sous Chef to join the culinary leadership team at our luxury resort. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, precision, and leadership to support the Executive Chef in delivering exceptional dining experiences across the property.

As Sous Chef, you will be instrumental in upholding the highest culinary standards, mentoring kitchen staff, and ensuring operational excellence in a dynamic, guest-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef in menu planning, recipe development, and food presentation aligned with the resort’s luxury standards and seasonal ingredients.
  • Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations including production, prep, line execution, and service timing.
  • Maintain strong kitchen leadership, setting the tone for professionalism, cleanliness, and efficiency.
  • Supervise and mentor junior culinary team members, supporting skills development, consistency, and morale.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations and all local and state codes.
  • Participate in hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations of kitchen staff.
  • Maintain food cost controls and manage inventory, waste reduction, and vendor relationships.
  • Ensure exceptional quality and consistency in every dish served, from fine dining to large banquets.
  • Act as Chef-in-Charge in the absence of the Executive Chef.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3–5 years of progressive culinary leadership experience in upscale or luxury hotel, resort, or fine dining environments.
  • Degree or certification from a recognized culinary institution preferred.
  • Strong understanding of classical and modern culinary techniques.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop culinary teams.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in kitchen software, inventory systems, and food cost management tools.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor.
