Primary Focus:

The Director of Construction is a key leadership role that is responsible for overseeing a team of project managers, field crews and support personnel in a growing environmental construction organization. They will be responsible and accountable for a wide range of functions that support a successful construction business and simultaneously ensures a high level of service for clients. This role reports directly to the Metro Environmental Services executive leadership and will be a strategic partner that helps drive growth and achieve organizational objectives.

Overall, they’ll be overseeing all aspects of the construction process, from planning and budgeting to execution and completion. They are responsible for managing daily operations, setting budgets, delivering on profit projections, identifying areas of improvement, and strategic planning. Their ability to stick to schedules, stay within budget, maintain quality, collaborate effortlessly and consistently to successful outcomes is key. What You’ll Be Responsible For:

  • Conduct Weekly Operational Meetings with selected Staff using data and statistics to provide cost analysis and reporting to assist leadership in decision making or other financial initiatives.
  • Oversees and directs any field personnel through the Project Managers. (Minimize direct involvement with field personnel).
  • Oversees and Participates in Project Buy Outs by monitoring the PM’s and ensure that we are getting 3 competitive prices on all subs, materials, and rental purchases over $5,000 and sign off on all AP invoices over $5,000.
  • Review and evaluate estimates created by Estimating Dept. and/or Project Managers and coordinate transfer meetings with Estimating, Office Manager and PM’s.
  • Provide detailed reports that will include breakdowns of project costs and forecasts of remaining costs and assist in the development of construction annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Prepare regular reports for on project status, financial performance, and departmental metrics and confirm all project documentation is accurate, complete, and stored appropriately.
  • Work with leadership team for the prioritization of projects and monitor the volume of work and progress of the construction schedule.
  • Manage a team of project managers to ensure the projects follow the expected timelines and budgets.
  • Gross Profit Review two times a month (mid-month and by month close).
  • Responsible for reviewing, completing and executing project contracts in accordance with set requirements.
  • Manage day-to-day client interaction and expectations for multiple projects concurrently to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Ensures that all jobs are assigned to a Project Manager, and they maintain fiscal control.
  • Oversee new and current subcontractor relations and communicate status of projects effectively, between vendors, subcontractors, clients, etc...
  • Review and evaluate construction change orders for validity and accuracy.
  • Ensures field personnel are being trained, developed and performance managed while overseeing the recruiting efforts needs for the construction team.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to all safety protocols and regulations while enforcing quality control programs that meet or exceed industry standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and other stakeholders to serve as the primary point of contact regarding construction operations.
  • Monitor project progress, addressing potential risks, and implementing corrective measures as needed. Confirm all process milestones are met and attend meetings as necessary to ensure projects are delivered on time.
  • Conduct regular site visits to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards and ensure all regulatory permits or approvals are in place.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the construction team throughout the course of the project to ensure their ability to meet all their goals and deadlines.
  • Responsible for Customer collections/billing.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in Construction with Seven (7) or more years of management experience including leading teams.
  • Knowledge of safety practices pertaining to underground and environmental construction.
  • Strong communication skills across all departments in the organization as well as with vendors, professional contacts, and vendors.
  • Is a team player who can manage a team, successfully complete their job duties and meet deadlines with proficiency in construction project management software.
  • Maintains an understanding of individual team members strengths and weaknesses, and through training, mentorship, and active leadership work to enhance the capabilities of the team.
  • Delegates work to ensure deadlines are met, efficiency is optimized, and decision-making is swift.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite with advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Is comfortable influencing decisions on which projects to pursue using advanced knowledge of construction processes, scheduling, and financial management.
  • Will thrive in a fast-paced, multi-project environment with high expectations and defined outcomes.
  • Is a concise communicator who can manage inside and outside of the organization and readily collaborate to solve complex issues.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (preferred)
